Police believe Christopher John Clarke escaped from the minimum security facility sometime between 9pm Wednesday and 7am Thursday.
He was imprisoned for burglary and theft.
Investigators have searched the immediate area without success.
Clarke is 29-years-old and has been described as Caucasian, 192cm tall, with a solid build, shaved hair. He weighs about 116kg.
He was last seen wearing a green coloured prison uniform.
Police urge anyone who sees Clarke or knows of his whereabouts to call 000 immediately.
