Warrnambool’s traditional celebration at Flagstaff Hill is expected to be a big drawcard and will feature live music and children’s activities, with fireworks displays at 9.30pm and midnight.
The annual event will kick off at 6.30pm.
Fireworks, music and children’s activities will also make Hamilton’s New Year’s Eve celebrations a lively affair.
The pyrotechnics display, supported by Southern Grampians Shire Council and provided by Hamilton-based company Southern Star Fireworks, will fire up from 10.30pm at Melville Oval and will be part of a range of activities for the entire community that have been organised by the Hamilton North Rotary Club.
The family entertainment will start on Gray Street from 7pm. Activities include a Lions club barbecue, music, a jumping castle, giant slide, Rotary train rides and more.
For public safety Melville Oval will be closed to the public prior to, during and after the fireworks display.
Residents located in the vicinity of Melville Oval and the Hamilton central business district are advised to take necessary precautions with pets which might be disturbed during this time.
Spectators enjoying the fireworks display are reminded to be aware of traffic in the area and to be aware that normal road rules apply.
At Portland, the Bentinck Street lawns will be the centre of the city’s New Year’s Eve celebrations from 6pm.
Glenelg Shire Council has put together an array of family-friendly entertainment, with Dazzling Dan the Magic Man kicking off the evening with a special children’s show on the lawn stage.
From 7pm, local sensations Scott and Danielle will continue the family theme, followed by alternative rock group Three Cheers to Treason, local cover band, Next Chapter and headline act, the edgy rock outfit Shameless from Melbourne.
There will also be free children’s amusement rides near the Portland Angling Club from 6pm to 10pm, and foreshore fireworks at 10pm and again at midnight.
Bentinck Street, from Gawler Street to Henty Street, will be closed to traffic from 4pm to allow the festivities to take place.
The Maritime Discovery Centre car park areas will also be closed to the public.
The consumption and possession of liquor in unsealed containers will be permitted on Bentinck Street between Gawler Street and Henty Street from 4pm on Monday, December 31 until 1am on Tuesday, January 1.
