Director of junior cricket Gordon McLeod said the Terry Beks-coached Warrnambool Gold and Warrnambool Blue, under the guidance of Kevin Bond, would represent WDCA well at the January 7-11 tournament.
“The selectors have chosen two evenly balanced teams with talented players spread throughout to ensure that all players have plenty of opportunity to show their skills,” he said.
“Five underage players have been included in these teams, which is designed for them to gain added experience for future Country Week ventures.
“Four of these players — Liam Brown, Charlie Locke, Brody Couch and Jack Knight — are members of the Western Waves under 14 team to contest the 2013 state championships in Melbourne.”
Western Waves opened its under 14 campaign with a 75-run loss to Mallee Murray Bulls in Horsham on Sunday.
Locke was the pick of the Waves’ bowlers with 5-28.
Warrnambool Gold captain and wicket keeper Nick King top scored for Western Waves in the under 16s opening match on Sunday.
King knocked 86 in the Waves’ win against Mallee Murray Bulls.
The Waves will complete their under 14 and under 16 state championship campaigns in Melbourne from January 21 to 24.
McLeod said WDCA’s listed players were required at a Country Week training session at the Mack and Walter ovals’ nets on Thursday, January, 3 at 5pm.
Players will receieve their WDCA playing tops and caps at 6.30pm that night.
Horsham Under 15 Country Week games will consist of 45 overs.
There is a possibility a Twenty20 game will be included in the fixture.
