I recently participated in the Blue Light Bike Ride to Illowa and it was fantastic! It involved the police force, the Warrnambool City Council, the Rotary club, parents and our schools volunteering to get Warrnambool’s kids fit and healthy.
Our leaders wore green so we knew who they were, and there were drink stops on the way so we didn’t get dehydrated. At the end the Rotary club provided us with free sausages and veggie burgers for the vegetarians.
I would like to thank all of the organisers and sponsors of this event for the things that I have learnt and the fun all the participants had. An event like this helps to reinforce the riding skills taught in bike education programs and provides our generation with confidence on our roads and in our own abilities. I have noticed in recent weeks that there has been a lot of discussion about kids being fit and healthy, and this event just proves that our future adults are getting encouragement from our schools, government agencies and parents.
I hope that this program continues to gain support and funding so that it can become an annual event.
