But beyond the festive atmosphere, Christmas lights displays will also create a chance for readers to win $1100 worth of vouchers up for grabs, thanks to Harvey Norman and The Standard's 2012 Christmas Lights Competition.
Open to homes across the south-west, you can enter the competition by submitting photos of your home's Christmas display for a shot at the first prize of a $500 gift card.
Second prize will be vouchers worth $250, while third place takes a $150 voucher.
Each submission will go into an online gallery, as well as our Christmas trail map, and will open up to our readers to choose the winner.
The easiest way to submit your decorations and display photos is using our free iPhone and Android apps, by hitting the Report button, then sending us your submission through the competition assignment.
If you don't own a smartphone and cannot access The Standard apps, email your photos to editor@thestandard.net.au.
Three public voters will also be chosen at random to win a $100 voucher, so keep an eye on www.standard.net.au for the first entries to be uploaded for voting.
