Detective Sergeant Steve Brown, of the Portland police crime investigation unit, said yesterday damage to the oval was substantial.
He said a home in Casterton's Shiels Terrace was also burgled overnight Saturday. Residents found a door open and fly-wire screen removed after they returned home but nothing was disturbed or damaged.
There was also a report of a padlock being cut off a shed at Casterton's McKinlay Street. The offence occurred some time between Sunday and November 3. No entry was gained to the shed.
