The 100-metre freestyle champion was joined by fellow Olympians Travis Mahoney and Sarah Katsoulis for the free open day at the Queens Road site on Saturday.
AquaZone service manager Ray Smith said more than 1500 people attended to help celebrate AquaZone’s 10th birthday.
“It was busy. A fitting celebration,” he said.
“James Magnussen was very popular with the swimmers. He took a learn-to-swim session and then signed autographs after lunch for a couple of hours.
“James is from a regional area so he likes these sort of event.
“There were a lot of people coming and going and learning about the programs and services we provide.”
The open day also featured a pool pony championship, inflatable play equipment including a slide and aqua-joust and a range of giveaways.
Saturday’s 10th anniversary was also 50 years to the day since the official opening of the Olympic Pool complex on November 17, 1962.
