About the role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, as a Process Controller of the Blast Furnace you will be responsible for process monitoring from the control room and directly on plant. In addition, you will support the operating shift in the absence of the Shift Leader. While leading the plant, you will plan, coordinate, control and supervise the shift activities within the Blast Furnace and utilise your proactive nature to spot possible issues and minimise delays to keep the process running efficiently.

Key responsibilities:

  • Analysis of raw materials and metallurgical sampling data to control hot metal quality 
  • Monitoring and management of services and troubleshoot within the charging processes
  • Analysis and interpretation of data trends to control key parameters within the process
  • Working with numerical data and providing calculations for key process control
  • Identifying on plant issues, while working directly on plant including manual monitoring, fault finding and resolution
  • Conduct purge procedures of gas systems and isolation of plant
  • Provide shift Blast Furnace operations supervision in the absence of the Shift Leader
  • Provide an environment, supporting operational ownership of plant and equipment reliability
  • Production planning, scheduling and coordination with the maintenance scheduling team
  • Plan rosters, team over time, and manage sick leave and performance management
  • Manage inventory within Blast Furnace control, to minimize stock levels, expenditure and within budget

About your experience

With solid heavy industry experience, and demonstrated experience in process control, our ideal candidate will have strong people and influencing skills with excellent attention to detail. An understanding of chemical elements, analysis of data and ability to process numerical information is critical in this role. 

In addition you will have:

  • Strong IT proficiency including MS Office, particularly Excel
  • Previous experience within a control room environment alongside gas and/ or ancillary experience
  • Gas regulation training is highly advantageous
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • The ability to translate Blast Furnace requirements to ‘task level’ for employees
