Portland's crime spree extends over weekend

THE crime spree in Portland continued over the weekend with two homes burgled and damage to the golf course.

Detective Senior Constable Jack Beanland, of the Portland crime investigation unit, said a laptop computer valued at $1900 was stolen overnight Saturday from a Seaview Terrace home although there was no sign of a forced entry.

He said cash was stolen from an unlocked white Mitsubishi van parked near a King George Parade address overnight on Saturday.

Thieves then entered a garage through a side door, searched through drawers and stole about $200.

A tap was smashed near the 10th hole of the Portland Golf Club and about $1000 damage was done when holes were punched in the green.

There were also two thefts from cars over the weekend with a small amount of cash stolen from vehicles in King Street and Browning Street.

Bluescope Distributions, on the Portland-Nelson Road, was broken into early last week.

The office was ransacked and computer screens and airconditioning units were damaged.

Trident Tyre Centre was broken into on Friday.

And overnight on Wednesday there was an attempted burglary at Portland Bus Lines.
