Detective Senior Constable Chris Potter, of Colac police criminal investigation unit, said the 28-year-old man was randomly intercepted in Queen Street on Saturday night.
He was arrested following the suitcase’s discovery and charged with trafficking cannabis before being bailed to face Colac Magistrates Court on May 30.
Detective Senior Constable Potter declined to reveal how much cannabis was allegedly found in the man’s possession.
Colac police were also kept busy over the weekend dealing with a car break-in that occurred in a private driveway.
Thieves smashed the rear quarter window of a Hyundai about 2.30am yesterday and escaped with the victim’s wallet and an ashtray.
Police also arrested a 44-year-old Norlane man over the weekend and charged him with criminal damage, an offence allegedly linked to a domestic dispute.
He was granted bail and will appear in Colac Magistrates Court next month.
Meanwhile, a Portland woman will spend 14 months off the road after being caught driving while almost three times over the legal alcohol limit.
Acting Sergeant Anthony Handley, of Portland police, said the 25-year-old was intercepted about 1.45am on Saturday.
She returned a blood alcohol reading of .144 and received an immediate licence suspension and $508 fine.
Portland police also caught a 61-year-old man drink-driving about 9.10pm on Saturday and issued a penalty notice in response to his reading of .082.
Acting Sergeant Handley said officers were concerned to find drivers ignoring road safety messages.
“There will be quite a few operations on at Easter time, so we’ll be really cracking down on the traffic side of our law enforcement,” he said.
