Fatal crash delays Warrnambool train

PASSENGERS on the Melbourne to Warrnambool V/Line service last night experienced delays of up to 90 minutes when a fatal accident involving a freight train and a car near Werribee shut the rail line between Melbourne and Geelong.

V/Line media unit spokeswoman Clare Steele said there were delays as road coaches were sourced for a replacement to the 6.39pm service from Southern Cross station.

There were also disruptions to the 5.18pm rail service from Warrnambool to Melbourne, with passengers forced to transfer from the train to road coaches at Geelong to complete their journey.

Ms Steele said regular rail services would resume today.
