MYSTERY surrounds the future of Warrnambool’s SSW Shoe Warehouse shop which closed its doors at the weekend.
The store on the prime corner position at the intersection of Koroit and Kepler streets is officially “closed for stocktaking” according to signs on the windows.
However, nobody has been inside nor has the telephone been answered for the past two days.
The Standard could not reach the store’s operator.
Across the road Warrnambool’s Blockbuster store remains unoccupied after closing earlier this month.
An increasing number of CBD stores have closed in the past 12 months in the face of a rising trends towards internet shopping and consumer spending slowdown. Meanwhile, south-west Retravision store owners are continuing to trade independently in the wake of the collapse of their bulk buying group, Retravision Southern, which went into voluntary administration on Monday.
Warrnambool store spokesman Rob Askew said a new supply arrangement should be in operation soon.“It’s business as usual for the western Victorian stores,” he said.
