Look out, here come the Robertsons

THE Robertsons have made a big charge up the south-west population ladder this year.

The surname has moved into the list of the most popular, according to information contained in the new 2012-13 White Pages directory.

It joined Harris and Moloney on the charts, edging out King, Edwards and White from the top 16 most popular surnames.

Cobden’s senior football coach Wayne Robertson says he and wife Kim are doing their bit for the cause, raising two boys, Henry, 7, and Jonty, 5.

“It might show we’re good breeders,” he joked.

In fact, the town may need its own special Robertson phone directory in future years.

Wayne’s mother has three sons and six grandsons. “She’s hanging out for a granddaughter,” he said.

“There’s not one bit of pink at the moment.”

Meanwhile, people searching for someone with the surname of Smith will have to scan the pages carefully to find the right person, with that name remaining in place at number one.

Wilson is the second most popular surname while the Ryans have overtaken the Browns and moved into third.

Other common surnames include Taylor, Williams, McKenzie, Jones, Kelly, McDonald, Johnson, Anderson, Thomas, Bell, Clarke, Cameron and O’Brien. The directories, which also include the Yellow Pages, have been distributed throughout the Warrnambool, Portland, Hamilton, Camperdown and Port Fairy districts.
