An e-petition requesting the immediate removal of the crossings at the Lava/Liebig and Koroit/Liebig streets roundabouts was received in February.
They were installed last year as part of the council’s $15-million city centre renewal project.
A report in the agenda says councillors have five options to consider.
These include keeping the crossings as they are, removing them over a period of 12 months, implementing a ‘zig zag’ line marking to highlight them, investigating the installation of flashing signals or implementing full signalisation of the intersections.
The recommendation in the report says the council should “reaffirm its position to retain these crossings and review their effectiveness after the completion of the city centre renewal project”.
The report says that process would take about 12 months if the crossings were to be removed.
“Over this time the line marking would wear and fade to a point where the crossings could be removed,” it says.
The petition had 5733 names however only 402 identified with Warrnambool addresses and the balance identified with other locations from across Australia and the world.
The public meeting is on at 5.45pm at the council chambers, 25 Liebig Street, Warrnambool.
