But the father-of-three has switched allegiances.
Boyd spearheads an Allansford attack intent on snapping a seven-year premiership drought against his old club – Russells Creek – at Reid Oval on Saturday.
While an Allansford flag is the goal, Boyd remains close friends with several Jetty Flat faithful and attended the club’s 40-year reunion in February.

“I was thinking that the game against (Creek) eight weeks ago was my first hit-out against them for a while. We played them in the Twenty20 final but I was away,” Boyd told The Standard.
“I think the grand final is going to be no different. Nobody wants to get hit around by their mates, and I’d like to get them out.
“That’s your attitude every single week.”
Boyd revealed strong numbers at training – the club’s division two outfit is also preparing for a grand final – meant his men were upbeat leading into the clash.
“We’ve got a mixture of both youth and experience in both division one and two, and that certainly helps us numbers-wise,” he said.
“We’ve done the bulk of our training on the turf wicket and feel well-prepared.”
