IN-form Warrnambool trainer Patrick Ryan has opted for his imported galloper Clondaw Warrior to make his Australian debut in the $300,000 Mornington Cup on Saturday, instead of running in the $50,000 Stawell Cup on Easter Sunday.

Ryan’s stable is enjoying a great run with I’ll’ava’alf winning a steeplechase at Warrnambool last week and John Monash successful in a flat race at Pakenham on Thursday night from his last two runners.
“The stable is going really well,” the Warrnambool Cup winning trainer said. “I’m very happy with how Clondaw Warrior has been going. He worked solidly at Warrnambool last week.
“He’s a highly rated horse so it was easier to start him off in the Mornington Cup rather than taking him to the Stawell Cup.
He’s a straight forward type of horse and the aim at this stage is either the Warrnambool Cup or the Galleywood Hurdle at the Warrnambool May Carnival and after that he’ll probably tackle the feature hurdle races in the winter.”
With no Melbourne metropolitan meeting on Saturday, the Mornington meeting carries city status with other features including the $200,000 Hareeba Stakes and a $120,000 Guineas over 1600-metres.
Darren Weir’s Warrnambool satellite stable has hopes of snaring a big interstate double with Gailo Chop running in the $700,000 Ranvet Stakes and Cliff’s Edge accepted for a $600,000 Rosehill Guineas run.
Weir’s Mornington’s chances include Gallic Chieftain which runs in the Mornington Cup and Stellar Collision is a Hareeba Stakes chance at odds of $4 in the early betting markets.
