Colac police Senior Constable Marty Howells said the P-plater driver lost control along the dirt Armstrong Street, in Elliminyt, when he swerved to miss the kangaroos and his Hyundai IX 35 rolled.
He and his two passengers received non life-threatening injuries, including broken bones.
The trio were transported to Colac Base Hospital for assessment and treatment.
“Alcohol was not an issue, although the speed the driver was travelling, the condition of the dirt road and the kangaroo were all contributing factors,” Senior Constable Howells said.
“The message is for all drivers to drive to the conditions and their abilities. Don’t travel too fast to avoid animals.”
The police officer said the Hyundai was extensively damaged and expected to be an insurance write-off.
Investigations are continuing and the P-plater may receive a penalty notice for having an overloaded vehicle.
