The line has been shut from Warrnambool to Camperdown since fires hit the district late Saturday night.
While those travelling from Camperdown to Melbourne were able to do so by train, coaches were needed from Warrnambool to Camperdown.
V/Line crews have spent the week fixing three kilometres of track between Terang and Garvoc. The damage included 1440 burnt sleepers and a broken level crossing.
V/Line CEO James Pinder thanked passengers for the patience during the disruption.
“Final assessments of the line will be completed later this week and V/Line will re-open the Warrnambool line for passenger and freight trains from Sunday,” Mr Pinder said.
“We thank passengers for their patience while trains were replaced by coaches for either part or the entire journey this past week.
“V/Line has been working hard to complete the repairs so trains could resume running as quickly and safely
as possible.”
Passengers are advised there may be some minor service changes on Sunday for operational reasons. The Warrnambool line will be active from 1pm Saturday to enable test trains and freight services to operate.
V/Line will continue to provide regular travel updates through its website.
