Many residents in affected areas have had to confront the challenges presented by the fires without internet access.
At a community information meeting at Garvoc on Sunday night, residents told emergency services they were in the dark regarding fire updates because they had no internet access.
The Garvoc Hall is currently being set up as a community information centre with hard copies of documents containing information able to be picked up from there.
A Telstra representative said three mobile base stations were impacted through Sunday and recovered on Monday morning.
“At this stage we estimate around 500 fixed line services to be impacted around the Peterborough and Port Campbell areas,” the representative said.
“This is mainly due to power related outages. These are being worked through and we expect to have the majority of these service restored today. There will be some localised customer issues with fixed cable infrastructure damage due to the fires. Our teams will be investigating as soon as it is safe to do so and repairs will start as soon as possible.”
