On Saturday, the Western Victoria Holden Car Club will hold its 7th annual show’n’shine as a farewell to Holden production in Australia.
It was the end of an era when the last Holden rolled off the production line in Australia in October last year, club president Peter Dunn said.
“We expect 100 cars this year. We’ll have everything from an FX right through the latest model,” he said “We’ll have Callaghan’s on site as well so they’ll have their latest cars there – the last of the Australian built on deck. That is a bit of special car.”
Funds raised from the gold coin entry at the Lake Pertobe event will go to the Special Development School.
The show’n’shine, which runs between 10am and 2pm, will include a 1964 EH wagon and Brad Hodges’ 1979 HZ that he has been restoring for about 20 years.
“It’s fully optioned for the era – so it had air-conditioning, power steering, electric windows,” he said.
Also on Saturday, some of the region’s more flamboyant vehicles will be on display at an auction to raise money for the Lookout residential rehabilitation centre appeal.
Vehicles include a Formula 1 racing car, 1927 Phantom Rolls Royce, Delage sports car, 1908 international high wheeler motor buggy and a Tesla electric car. Two homemade, trikes will be on show, including one with a V8, seven-litre engine which is believed to be the largest capacity trike in Australia.
The display at the former Callaghan motors site in Fairy Street will run between 9am and 3pm. The auction starts at 10.30am and items to go under the hammer include a rare car sign, furniture and tools. Items can be inspected from 9am Saturday or between noon and 2pm Friday.
On Saturday and Sunday, the fourth round of the 2018 Trydel Victorian Hill Climb Championship will be held at Mt Leura in Camperdown. Dozens of drivers are set to test their skills and cars on the uphill course.
