Jayantha Wijetunge, 54, of Donovans Road, Macarthur, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to drink driving, driving an unregistered car and driving without his headlights being on.
He was fined and banned from driving for 20 months.
Police said that at 9.30pm on December 21 last year Wijetunge was driving east on Lava Street without his headlights on when seen by police.
He was intercepted, his car was not registered and he blew a reading of .2 - four times the legal limit.
Wijetunge said he was going out to get dinner on the first night of his holidays.
He has no prior convictions.
Wijetunge said he usually had one or two glasses of wine at the end of the day but had consumed more because it was the first day of his holidays.
He said he had made a poor decision.
Magistrate Cynthia Toose said Wijetunge was a valued employee, he had glowing references and the loss of licence would be a significant penalty.
"I understand this is generally not the way you conducted yourself," she said.
