The last team to do so was Yarra Ranges in 2014, with the Renegades’ men’s team having to fight back from a six-point deficit against Southern Cross Cobras in the final set to secure the double and back-to-back tournament wins in three sets.
The women’s team defeated last year’s champions Yarra Ranges in three sets.
Renegades men’s coach Gus Cirillo said he was proud of his side’s performance, especially in the final when it had to fight back in the final set to win.
“It was great from the guys, it was good to see the guys able to fight back from a deficit and it was just matter of getting their minds back on the game and getting back to our structures,” he said.
“We started this year with a relatively younger team and coming in we didn't know what to expect and with each game we kept improving.
“Fortunately we finished second overall, but got the chance to play in another grand final and we are happy get away with the win.”
The Renegades’ sweep continued, with the women’s division one side securing a three-set victory over South Australian side Heathfield. While in the men’s decider, Queensland Redbacks defeated Monash University.
