WARRNAMBOOL City Council approved a new $4.5 million luxury motel on the corner of Liebig and Merri streets, overlooking Lake Petrobe. Council had been presented with plans for the four-storey, five-star motel.

EMMA Currie was elected as the junior mayor for Warrnambool City Council.
The former Warrnambool High School student had been a student exchange student in South Africa in 1986.
DONATIONS were being sought to heat Warrnambool’s swimming pool. The target for the pool was $120,000 with Dr Mike Page the chairman of the fundraising committee.
A MEETING was held in Koroit to discuss the possibility of building a new pavilion in the town. An estimated cost of the project stood at $127,000.
THE real estate market in Warrnambool was busy with a three bedroom house in Coulstock Street selling for $69,000. A stone cottage in Henna Street sold for $67,000, with 30 people attending the auction.

This event was held at the Warrnambool Surf Life Saving Club and was strictly no alcohol.
OUT of town, the Killarney Hotel had live entertainment on Saturday and Sunday of the long weekend with Tom Forsell and the Moonee Valley Drifters playing.
SUPERSTAR Irish singer-songwriter Christy Moore played at the Warrnambool Performing Arts Centre as part of his Australian tour.
HIGH-PROFILE Australian performer John Williamson was one of the stars of the Port Fairy Folk Festival.
The iconic festival went ahead despite heavy rain lashing the town over the weekend.
SPORT
ONE of the fastest growing in the south-west was indoor cricket. A new competition had just started with the venue being the Rollerbowl.

KAFT-ALLANSFORD allrounder Barry Maguire won the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association CRicketer of the Year award.
FORMER Camperdown footballer Ken Hinkley made his VFL debut whehn he lined up for Fitzroy.
HInkley palyed 10 games in his debut season, kicking 20 goals.
