Kidd, who today played in the rink skippered by Andrew Taylor, was the source of inspiration for Green’s 45-shot victory over City Memorial Gold according to John Gherashe.
“We did it for Allen,” he said after the 112-67 victory.
“He is suffering from cancer and we weren’t sure if this would be his last pennant game, so we all decided we would bowl to get him a few more games.”
Terang needed to secure three rink wins to leapfrog City Gold into the WDBD finals. They were able to secure the necessary three wins, whilst scoring extra points with a draw.
The extra points were enough to secure Green a finals spot and possibly a few more games for Kidd.
The rink of Andrew Taylor lead the way for Green, defeating the Garry Davey 34-17.
Jamie Heffernan overcame the rink of Bill Timms to win by 16 shots, while Daniel Morrison was able to hold off Peter Cooke to record a 12 shot victory.
Kevin Carlin’s rink drew with Raymond Cooknell at 21-shots apiece.
Gherashe said Green were ecstatic to be able to play finals.
“For such a little club this is a great feeling,” he said.
“We had to work extra hard today to make sure we secured the win and the finals spot, after we slipped up against Lawn Tennis last week.
“It was even all day and we had to dig deep in the end to secure the points.”
Elsewhere, Koroit Blue sealed its spot on top of the WDBD ladder with a 25-shot victory over Warrnambool Gold.
Timboon Gold finished off its season with a 81-shot thrashing of wooden spoon winners Lawn Tennis Green.
Dennington Red handed eventual second place finished City Memorial Red a wake up call ahead of next week’s final, upsetting them by 12 shots.
While Port Fairy Red finished its season on a high with a tight one-shot victory over Mortlake Blue.
