Master Of Arts with top jumps jockey John Allen in the saddle scored an impressive victory in the 2400 metre hurdle trial. The performance pleased Victoria’s leading trainer as he tries to win his first Adelaide Cup after Master Of Arts ran third to Annus Mirablia in last year’s 3200 metre race.
“The hurdle trial will keep Master Of Arts ticking along to the Adelaide Cup,” Weir said.
“He’ll run in the Lord Reims next Saturday, which he won last year, before running in the Adelaide Cup.
“He looks like he’ll make a good jumper but I’ve got no thoughts of putting him in a jumps race at this stage.”
Warrnambool trainer Symon Wilde is weighing up options for Straight Jacket after he was successful in one of the hurdle trials.
“I’m not sure which path we’ll go down with him,” Wilde said.
“I just think he may need another hurdle trial before looking at a maiden hurdle. It’s in the back of my mind we may run him on the flat in the Edenhope Cup next month.”
Warrnambool will host its next jumping trials on March 9, before running hurdle and steeplechase races at its March 15 meeting.
