MILESTONE: The small township of Heywood will host the 25th annual Wood, Wine & Roses Festival on Saturday. The festival will be a smorgasbord of entertainment with the live music having a focus on tribute shows. These will include shows covering the work of Buddy Holly, Rob Orbison, Elvis Presley and Robbie Williams. Emerging Portland band Since Tuesday and children’s entertainers the Mik Maks will also perform.
Other activities will include a truck/ute show, highland dancing, wood chopping, a circus and a street parade.
ROW YOUR BOAT: The South West Rowing Regatta will be held on Saturday and Sunday. To be staged on the Hopkins River in Warrnambool, the regatta will feature local teams up against entries from South Australia and Tasmania. The Victorian St Ayles Skiff Championships will take place on Saturday and on Sunday it will be the Australian Whaleboat Racing Championships.
CONCERT: A Raise the Rafters show will be held at St Brigids in Crossley. The concert will feature local choirs and will begin at 7.30pm. A singing workshop will be held from 10am to 4pm. Cost of the workshop and concert is $45.
CULTURE: The Warrnambool Portuguese Cultural Festival will be held this weekend. The Emmanuel Centre will be the venue for activities on Saturday with the fun moving to Cannon Hill and Lake Pertobe on Sunday. Traditional music, dance and cuisine will be part of the weekend.
GRAB A BARGAIN: Railway Place in Port Fairy will be the venue for a craft market on Saturday morning. The market is ran by the Port Fairy Community House and features local craft and produce.
GOOD FIT: Saturday morning is a time to get outdoors and active in Port Fairy with the town’s park run happening. The run begins at 8am with participants heading off from Russell Clark Reserve.
HEATING UP: Warrnambool Fire Brigade will host the 45th Junior State Urban Fire Brigade Championships on Saturday. The championships will be held at Friendly Societies Park with action from 8.30am.
