Warrnambool hobby trainer Geoff Withers hopes Dream Diamond’s two runs following a 75-week break will have the seven-year-old ready to run a forward race in a $30,000 restricted race over 1700 metres at his home track on Thursday.

Dream Diamond had the long break away from the track after injuring his off-front suspensory following a third placing at Geelong in August 2017.
He ran sixth of six over 1400 metres at his second run from a spell at Warrnambool earlier this month which followed on the back of another unplaced run at Terang but Withers said he should improve from those runs.
“I’m sure he’ll improve over the 1700 metres,” the popular trainer said. “Dream Diamond is stoutly bred on the mother’s side.
“He’s out of a half-sister to Makybe Diva. He’s had a few niggling problems during his career but he’s over them. I really think he’ll be seen at his best in races from 2000 to 2400 metres.
“I’m hoping he’ll sneak into a place.” Withers considered running Dunkeld Cup winner Unrealistic in a restricted race at Warrnambool but decided to run the five-year-old at Ballarat on Sunday. The track is rated a soft five. The first race is scheduled to start at 4.00pm.
