Detective Senior Constable Richard Hughes, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, said that overnight Sunday a blue 1996 Mitsubishi Magna sedan was stolen from the rear of the Commercial Hotel in Terang’s High Street.
It’s believed the vehicle was used in the Camperdown burglary before being dumped in Riley’s Road, Terang, later in the morning.
The vehicle, valued at about $2000, contained items linked to the break-in.
Two witnesses in Camperdown then saw two men, they described as suspicious, walking around town wearing grey or black hoodies in the early morning.
At 5.30am the Magna pulled up out the front of Camperdown Seafoods at 148 Manifold Street.
A lightly built man wearing a grey or black hoodie and black track suit pants then got out of the car, smashed the front window, entered the store, grabbed the cash register off the counter and left, getting back in the car, which sped off.
It’s estimated the offender was only in the shop for 15 seconds.
The cash register valued at $500 contained $400 in cash.
A milker saw two men walking the streets and followed the car to the Cobden Road before returning and finding the fish shop had been burgled.
A second witness had dropped buns off at the shop at 4.30am and said everything was OK at that time.
He saw two men walking the streets and thought they looked suspicious.
It is believed that the offenders may have considered and tried to break into other shops.
Detective Senior Constable Hughes requested anyone with information, or anyone with security camera footage, to contact the Warrnambool police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
