Robert Smith, 47, of Huntly Street, unsuccessfully applied for bail in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon and was remanded in custody until March 8.
Warrnambool police Constable Ronald Baldam opposed bail saying Mr Smith was an unacceptable risk of committing further offences.
He said Mr Smith’s seven-year relationship had been deteriorating, culminating in events last Friday.
Mr Smith’s partner said he had been drinking heavily and mixing alcohol with prescription medication.
About 9pm Friday he was intoxicated in the passenger seat of his partner’s car, being driven along the Hamilton-Port Fairy Road, when he punched and cracked the windscreen during a verbal argument.
He said he would harm himself before jumping out of the car, while it was a moving about walking pace, suffering minor injuries.
The incident was reported to Koroit police, officers attended at the Huntly Street address where they were abused and Mr Smith threatened to kill them.
He was arrested and taken to the Warrnambool Base Hospital for a mental health assessment, where he was so aggressive he was restrained to a hospital bed.
Mr Smith threatened to kill police officers, spat at hospital staff, threatened to kill and sexually assault nurses and threatened to blow up the hospital.
He was lodged in the Warrnambool police station cells and Constable Baldam said there were grave fears for the safety of Mr Smith’s partner after he repeatedly made repeated about her.
Mr Smith his limited prior court appearances.
Constable Baldam said the female victim was petrified of Mr Smith and would not have stayed in Macarthur if he had been released on bail.
Mr Smith said he could stay with a friend address at Mailors Flat and he apologised for his “ridiculous behaviour”.
He said he had a problem with alcohol and wanted to seek treatment.
Magistrate Cynthia Toose said there was no evidence Mr Smith could stay at Mailors Flat and he faced serious charges.
“We do not know enough about you,” she told Mr Smith before refusing bail.
Earlier: A MACARTHUR man in his 50s will appear in court on Monday after threatening to kill police and hospital nursing staff in a disturbing episode which left emergency workers badly shaken.
Warrnambool police Sergeant Jason Dance said the man was arrested about 9.30pm Friday and taken to the Warrnambool Base Hospital for assessment due to his behaviour.
He said while at the hospital the man threatened to kill police and nursing staff, spat at people and threatened to sexually assault those trying to help him.
"He went berserk up at the hospital. It was shocking ... the worst I've seen. It was very nasty and the nursing staff were clearly left shaken," he said.
"The man spat at staff and behaved in an offensive and indecent manner.
"He was under police guard at the hospital but he was too too violent and aggressive and we transported him to the Warrnambool police station where he was placed him in the cells."
Sergeant Dance said the arrested man was remanded in custody about 7am Saturday, charged with seven offences and would appear in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Monday for a bail/remand hearing.
"His behaviour was bad - completely unacceptable and disgusting. In those circumstance we had to remove him from hospital," he said.
"He was behaving like that to people who are ultimately trying to help him. He's settled down now in the cells," he said.
