Ponting saluted in the cadet nine class, while Hookway emerged in the KA4 junior heavy category.
More than 240 entries were received for the round – figures Karting Victoria president and Cobden member Russell White was rapt with.
“It was a fabulous weekend,” he told The Standard.
"Trophies were spread around the state a bit – our young guys did well and I think most people were happy with how things went.
“The fields were just massive. It was a great result.”
White said the series’ next stop was in Ballarat.
He said the quality of racing was top notch.
“We had a couple of national champions – there were a lot of top karters around the traps,” he said.
“It was quite warm this morning but it cooled off in the afternoon so the conditions were perfect.
“There were a few spots of rain in the second last race but it didn’t wet the track at all, so it didn’t have an impact.”
The second round – at Ballarat – will take place on April 22. Warrnambool will host round four on July 4, with Hamilton taking round five.
The Standard photographer Morgan Hancock was there to capture the action.
