The inaugural parade of sheepdogs and sheep attracted hundreds of spectators to the streets of Port Fairy. The open section was tightly contested with 197 entries and only one point separating the winner, Mr Prince, with second place-getter Jimmy Dodge of Ballarat.

Port Fairy was also close to completing the work on the rebuilding of the wharf on the western side on the river. About 560 metres of the town’s main wharf was undergoing a replacement of timbers that had been damaged by white ants.
