“We put on a pretty good show.”
These are the words of Lex McRae who organises the annual Uniting Church Pancake Day with his wife Cally.
Mr McRae said the offering was one of the reasons community members kept returning to the Warrnambool church hall each Shrove Tuesday.
More than 130 people ate stacks of pancakes which were made using eight kilograms of pancake mix.
They enjoyed their dinner to the sounds of a piano being played amid volunteers who worked to serve the hungry patrons.
Savoury and sweet pancakes were on offer including savory beef, tuna mornay and vegetarian. For those with a sweet tooth there were pancakes with strawberry jam, maple syrup, lemon and sugar and apple and cinnamon, served with cream or ice-cream. Gluten free pancakes were also available.
The event is a fundraiser for Uniting, the community service arm of the Uniting Church and has been going for 17 years.
