Beavers captain Sam McCosh highlighted his side’s ability to pair up as the reason why it had jumped back into finals contention after dismissing Brierly-Christ Church and East Warrnambool for 100 and 86 in their recent two-day matches.
“We have been bowling in partnerships, making sure that our bowlers work together and we are pressuring from both ends and aren’t letting the batsmen get easy runs,” he said.
“We have quality bowlers in our side that just don't give the batsmen any break.”
McCosh highlighted the Beavers’ bowling variety had kept rival batsmen on their toes.
“We have a left-arm bowler in Tom Bowman, a swing-bowler in Joe Higgins, a bit of pace with Mitch Bowman, then the spin of Ben Evans and slow-medium pace with Jimmy (James) Dalton,” McCosh said.
“All our bowlers are something different and they all understand their games and their plans with line and length.
“It's always a good sign when you have bowlers knocking teams off for under 100, it’s a positive when you have bowlers performing like that.”
Ben Evans is the best of the bunch, leading the Beavers wickets tally with 26 wickets, while Dalton is close behind the spinner with 25. Tom Bowman and Higgins round out the top four with 19 and 15.
Wesley-CBC currently sit sixth on the WDCA table, four points shy of the third and fourth-placed Woodford and West Warrnambool.
They still have matches against second-placed Russells Creek and Nirranda, with the chance of a finals berth being pushed to the back of the skipper’s mind.
“It's just a week by week prospect, the old cliche of taking it one week at a time,” McCosh said. “We have just got to control what we can and look to win those games.”
