THE busier the better for new North Warrnambool Eagles assistant coach Tom Batten.

Batten has added the mentoring gig to his hectic schedule and will provide the Eagles with an on-field voice to complement non-playing coach Graeme Twaddle when the Hampden league season kicks off in April.

He will juggle football pre-season and cricket commitments with Woodford and the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association representative’s side over the coming months.

The father of one – son Ollie turns two in March – said he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“(Cricket) country week is in nine days, obviously footy pre-season is three nights (a week) and I am running a business,” Batten said.

“I’ve always liked being busy and I am not one for sitting around to wait for things.”

Batten said he was excited to work closely with Twaddle.

“I think he’s a real people person and his communication is really good and he’s clear with his messages,” he said.

“We have a really good relationship and we catch up all the time and I am on the phone to him a fair bit anyway.”
