Caitlin Garner’s name The STAGE was chosen from 100 entries. The name was announced to staff and students at an assembly on Thursday.

The STAGE, inspired by the acronym, Student Theatre for Arts and Growth at Emmanuel will include a 232 seat theatre with tiered seating, a recording studio, band rehearsal areas, studios, a drama classroom, dance studio and more.

Local builders Harrington Constructions have begun works on The STAGE. It is being built in the former hall in Ardlie Street with the assistance of federal government funding.

Students, staff, parents and alumni were invited to suggest a name for the new facility last year.

Caitlin said it was an honour to have her name chosen.

“I thought you may as well have a go,” Caitlin said. “You never know what will come out of it.

“I thought the name The Stage was a bit simplistic. It had to be meaningful and everyone loves an acronym.”

Caitlin was informed she was the winner during the school holidays.

“I’m really passionate about the theatre and to contribute to the school that has helped me grow and develop as a performer is humbling.

“It will be an area for everyone to grow in their artistic endeavours,” she said.

Principal Peter Morgan said it was an exciting new facility for the college and the wider community.

“This name has created a very clear identity for the new centre,” Mr Morgan said. “It positively reflects on who we are and how we wish to be seen today and in the future within the broader Warrnambool community."
