Second-year captain Kathy Jenkins and first-time president Sheryl Nicolson teed off together before 74 players took part in a stableford event.

Nicolson was pleased to oversee her first tournament.

“It is all a bit daunting,” she said.

“I think I dobbed myself in without knowing what the role was all about but I feel that it’s important to give back to the club if you’re a member, so I am prepared to give my best shot.

“They are all very enthusiastic and keen – the committee members themselves are ‘well I’ll do this, I’ll do that’ which is great.

“The ladies committee supports the event with catering and trophies.”

Long-time committee member Anne Hunt agreed, saying “you just get so much out of being involved”.

The club’s ladies committee runs weekly Wednesday competitions from February until March.

It also oversees tournaments, such as the Marj Robinson Bowl two-day event later this month, and the three-round club championships which will culminate on March 28.

A capacity 128-player field will contest day one of the annual Marj Robinson Bowl with 104 players combining for the teams event on the Tuesday.

“We limit our (Warrnambool) teams for the Marjorie Robinson Bowl to encourage the visitors; they’re a priority, to look after them,” Hunt said.
