Habel believes that the experience gained from the inter-association tournament would be beneficial to the side, especially the younger players.
“I think making the Sungold Cup and being competitive in it will give us a bit of confidence,” Habel said.
“I think all the younger guys got some good experience from playing it and they like that form of cricket and would be keen take a lot out of it.”
“Hopefully that confidence propels us for the rest of our home and away games.”
The Cats currently sit in sixth, five points away from fourth-placed Wangoom and Fifth-paced Purnim.
Habel said finals were not out of Hawkesdale’s reach.
“That finals spot is still gettable,” he said.
“We have just go to continue winning and we have got ourselves into a good position to win this week's game, we then just need to go on from there.”
The Cats are currently 0-2 against first-placed and last season’s winners Killarney, after they bowled the Crabs out for 148 last Saturday.
Habel says the next challenge for the Cats is to get players on the field to attack trying to secure a finals spot, with its final two regular season games against Mailors Flat and Purnim.
“Getting our full team on the park has been our issue lately, with a few injuries and unavailability hampering us,” the batsman said.
“Daniel Roache has a groin problem at the moment and some others have injuries too and a few unavailable.
“We have a strong side when we can get everyone out there.”\
Habel also believes that slight tweaks of the Cats’ game will help them.
“We can still improve our batting and bowling and if we want to make finals and once in there have an impact, we’ll need to improve in those areas.,” he said “We haven't been flying without setting the world on fire, yet we are still in reach of finals.”
