But the Warrnambool driver can feel the tide turning.
Mollenoyux produced a consistent run in Sunday’s South West Conveyancing Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic, finishing eighth after starting 12th.
“We’ve been travelling pretty good since Speedweek. It wasn’t kind to us and since then, we haven’t been in contention,” he said.
“We’ve kind of been struggling but we felt as if we picked up some momentum here. We’ve started driving for Steve Duggan and it’s a good challenge for us to adapt to his car.”
Mollenoyux, who was runner up to James McFadden in the 2017 classic, said he “based his entire season” around the prestigious race.
“Nothing comes close to the atmosphere of the race,” he said.
“It does have a lot of importance to it and you always want to have a good weekend. We didn’t have too many dramas so we’re pretty happy with how it went.”
Mollenoyux will compete in the Australian titles in Mount Gambier this week.
