City Red defeated a resilient Timboon Gold 93-77.
The 16 shot victory was set up by a commanding 21 shot win by Wayne Hall’s second rink.
“Timboon at their own rink are very competitive,” second rink third player Kevin McMahon said.
“It was pretty even all day, they served it up to us and we were able to hold them off in the end.
“We are happy with the win as Timboon are very hard to beat at home.”
McMahon believed his rink stood up to help deliver City Red the points.
“It was our turn to be the heroes this week,” he said.
“Our top rink had a bad day and that is bowls. Luckily enough we were able to carry the others across the line.”
The win was crucial to City Red as they now have the opportunity to edge closer to securing second place and to ladder leaders Koroit Blue.
“The next four weeks will be interesting,” McMahon said.
“Because with the bye situation, which no one particularity likes, will complicate the ladder, because you can think you are going alright and you run into a bye and you don't play and your opponents get points.
“It's very competitive in the competition at the moment, which is leading to a very interesting year as the three top sides are fighting for the second chances.”
In other WDBD A-grade matches City Gold moved to third after defeating Dennington Red 119-88. The 31 shot win came off the back of a strong performance by Peter Cooke’s third rink.
Terang Green accounted for Warrnambool Blue winning by 17 shots. The 105-88 win was secured by Green winning all their rinks including a close 22-21 win in Jamie Heffernan’s rink one.
Lawn Tennis Red were easily defeated by Port Fairy Red, with the final score 105-76. The 29 shot victory came off a even performance from Robert Mallett’s rink.
While Koroit Blue continued its hot run of form to see off Mortlake Blue 115-78. The 37 shot thumping was achieved because of a dominant Les Johnson first rink victory.
Warrnambool Gold had the bye this round. Gold now sit fourth after the bye with a game away against eighth place Dennington Red.
Next rounds byes are Terang green, Koroit Blue, Lawn Tennis Red, City Memorial Gold and Port Fairy Red.
