Bret Trigg, 25, will compete in his club’s two-day open on Saturday and Sunday after recovering from wrist surgery.
Trigg, who will race in the B Lite 250cc class, said he suffered multiple broken bones after falling in a training incident.
“If you have slipped over on tiles and put your hand out, it kind of felt like that sort of crash but it turns out I did a lot more damage,” he said.
“I didn’t actually think there was anything wrong with it, I thought it was a sprain but it turns out I did a fair bit of damage.
“I pretty much did the worst I could to a wrist but luckily my surgeon fixed it up good.”
Trigg said he was excited to return to motocross in a competitive sense, especially at the Lake Gillear track he loves.
“This is my first race since the two-dayer last year. I had an injury in February so I just want to get this race out of the way,” he said.
“It’s my home track. I have ridden here since I was eight years old, so I know the track pretty well and I am able to ride it on a week-to-week basis.
“Top 10 is my goal, so if I can finish there and have a safe weekend, I will be happy with that.
“I think there’s 22 in my field, so not a full grid but there’s still definitely going to be some good competition.”
Trigg said the Shipwreck Coast club would attract in excess of 250 riders across the two days.
“It’s the first race of the MV (Motorcycle Victoria) calendar so it’s always a big race for Victoria-wide riders and sometimes South Australian riders come across too,” he said.
Trigg’s clubmates Steve Collins, 27, Jett Bell, 13, and Archie Parsons, 11, are among the host club’s strong entrants.
