Mr Tehan, an avid racing fan, congratulated the Andrews government for getting the balance right in the draft plan which proposes to give horses access to beaches in the Belfast Coastal Reserve, which stretches from Port Fairy to Warrnambool.
“There’s not many times that I’ve supported the Andrews Government but I must acknowledge this initiative,” he said. “The draft plan has considered environmental issues and also taken into account the importance of the racing industry in the south-west and I’m happy small Moyne Shire-based hobby trainers have not been forgotten. They will be able to take their small team of horses down to Killarney like they have for years while the bigger trainers can go to Levys Point. I think it’s a great result and I’m hopeful that all groups will support the draft management plan.”
