Tug will play on Sunday night at the Dart and Marlin music festival.
The gig will be an opportunity for Tug to showcase their debut single, Paranoid Black Sheep.
Guitarist and singer Mitch Peters said the band is excited about its first offering.
“The song aims to reassure the listener that practically everyone seems to have their life in order, whilst simultaneously being in a state of self-assessment and subsequent redirection,” Peters said.
The single, which is on triple j Unearthed, is the first glimpse from the band’s debut album, You’re Not Exceptional Man, which will be released soon.
Peters is joined in the band by Tim Bayne (drums), Edward Jacobs (bass) and Jayden Hebbard (guitar).
All four live in Melbourne but have strong local connections with Bayne and Jacobs originally from Warrnambool.
Tug formed just eight months ago but have wasted no time in making an impact.
“We all met through friends of friends,” Peters said.
“Musically we hit it off straight away, we all have similiar tastes but with a bit of a difference so it is a good mix.
“I had a bunch of songs written that I had been wanting to record so that meant we could get into the studio and get things going quickly.
“We recorded live over two days and then did some over-dubbing.
“We are really excited about how the album has turned out, it goes in a lot of different directions and ties together nicely.”
While Tug’s Sunday show will be a highlight of the weekend, band members will have other duties to perform.
Bayne and Jacobs will also play a show with their other band, Indigo Children, along with Henry Jacobs and Brady Gunn.
Hebbard will also step out with The Stained Daisies.
Other bands playing at the festival include Leah Senior, Worm, Saol, Adam Halliwell, Earl Grey, Maria Moles and The Pretty Littles.
