A PORTLAND man recently released from jail who took an axe to a fence and front door, grabbed his partner around the throat and then caused $3000 damage to a car, has been imprisoned again.

Thomas Coolwell, 19, of Laverock Road, Warrnambool, and Levi Court, Portland, pleaded guilty in the Portland Magistrates Court this week to causing criminal damage, intentionally causing damage, unlawful assault and carrying a controlled weapon.
He was jailed for five months with 11 days counted as served.
Magistrate Cynthia Toose previously noted that Coolwell’s custody management issues included withdrawing from the use of methyl amphetamine – ice.
Police said that at 6pm on January 5 they received a report Coolwell was acting aggressively while armed with an axe while at his home with his partner and their young daughter
When officers arrive the woman was shaking and visibly upset.
A witness said she saw Coolwell smash fence palings and the front door of the home.
Coolwell's partner said he grabbed her around the throat while she was cleaning the kitchen, lifted her off the ground and broke her necklace.
She said she couldn't breathe.
Coolwell was released from prison in mid December.
The woman said he abused her daily and damaged property by kicking and punching doors.
He also ripped a security door off its hinges on January 4 when he was angry and accused the woman of cheating on him.
Mid last year Coolwell also damaged a woman's car after she invited him to stay at her home as a favour.
At 10am on July 24 the woman and Coolwell argued about drugs and she told him to get out.
He approached her silver Mazda 3 sedan and kicked several panels, resulting in large dents before smashing the rear window with a garden brick.
Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $3000 and because of the Mazda’s age and value it was deemed irreparable.
