She is now president of the group and was the director of the Vicar of Dibley stage production in November last year. The show was a huge hit, with all four performances selling out.

The theatre group is now preparing for its Short Plays Festival in June 2018. The group is calling for submissions of scripts up to 15 minutes in length.

Closing date for submission of scripts is March 9. A panel of writers and directors will then select the best scripts for inclusion in the festival. This process should be completed by late March, with auditions to be held in early-mid April and rehearsals commencing in late April.

What is the most exciting thing about being part of a theatre production?

Working with an enthusiastic team, creating theatre on a shoe-string budget.

What inspiration do you use for writing and directing theatre pieces?

I take inspiration from observations of real life situations and characters. Art imitates life, they say.

Who is your favourite theatre actor?

To be honest, I've had the most pleasure out of watching amateur and community actors realising their potential on stage.

But I am very partial to Carolyn O'Connor as she is a master of all aspects of performance, acting, singing and dancing.

What is the most memorable piece of live theatre you have seen?

This great adaptation of The Vicar of Dibley last year in Port Fairy......but then I might be a little bias!

What has surprised you about the Port Fairy Theatre group?

The Port Fairy Theatre Group allows any members of the community to have a chance to get involved in a theatrical performance and I'm always (delightedly) surprised at the talent that emerges from within the community.

You just never know what talent is out there just waiting for the right opportunity.

Do you have ambitions to step out of the backstage shadows and into a starring role on stage?

I have tread the boards many times, perhaps not so much in a starring role but I certainly love performing just as much as backstage work. I love the variety of theatre work.
