Still clinical with ball-in-hand yet struggling at the crease, McCosh’s men have slipped ninth on the overall ladder with losses in four out of their last five fixtures.
The second-year captain called on his top-order to build a defendable total as the Beavers seek to sew up a Twenty20 semi-final berth with a triumph over Nestles on Saturday.
“Over the last couple of games, we’ve been pretty poor with the bat. But we managed to bowl out a quality side in Allansford for 110 last week,” McCosh said.
“But our major improvement has to come from our batting. It’s about building partnerships. If we lose one, or two, we don’t want to lose a third and a fourth.”
McCosh said his bowling options were bolstered by the return of livewire Mitch Bowman three weeks ago and tipped the paceman to have a marked impact for the remainder of the season.
“It definitely gives us another avenue to go through and (former captain) Joe Higgins is another we’ve had back,” he said.
“We’ve got plenty of variation at the moment and that’s brilliant as a captain with plenty of choices.
“In Twenty20 matches, you’re always thinking about how you can go about upsetting the opposition’s batting rhythm.
“You want to hope that when you’re coming to the end of the innings, you’re getting close to bowling an opposition out. That’s our goal against Nestles.”
