Long-time mates Steve Glasson and Kelvin Kerkow will team up in the City Memorial Bowls Club’s Des Notley Classic Pairs on January 24 and 25.
Glasson was the first Australian lawn bowler to rise to number one in the world in men’s singles after winning the World Bowls Championships in Scotland in 2004, while Kerkow snared gold in the men’s singles at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
New South Wales-based Glasson and Queenslander Kerkow are excited to compete in Warrnambool for the first time. They’ve been busy with Gold Coast Commonwealth Games duties – Glasson is Australian coach and Kerkow a selector.
“Neither of us have played too much of late so we might be a bit rusty,” Glasson said.
Kerkow said they were expecting everyone to “be out to beat us”.
“Between us we’ve notched up some pretty big wins over the years,” he said.
“We’re looking forward to coming down.”
