The ute was one of three vehicles stolen in Warrnambool in the early hours of Friday morning.
Matt and Sherree Williams from Wandin North, together with their young daughters Gemma and Kristen have stayed at the park for the past 13 years.
Warrnambool police said the white Mitsubishi Triton ute was parked next to the Williams’ caravan and the keys for the ute were taken from the caravan while the family slept.
Detective Senior Constable Ashlea Witham, from Warrnambool Criminal Investigation Unit, said crime scene officers had attended the park and the ute’s registration number was XLB 975.
Mrs Williams said her grandmother had lived in Warrnambool and she had always holidayed in the city.
“We’ve been coming to the same spot every year,” she said. “It’s the first time we’ve ever had anything taken. We usually lock the caravan door but I went to bed at 11.30pm after washing clothes and forgot.” Mrs Williams said there were new runners and other possessions taken in the ute.
She said a post she put on Facebook about the stolen ute had been shared almost 300 times. “It has been flooded with people offering to help us and help get our caravan home,” she said.
Detective Senior Constable Witham said a Bartons Waste ute and a Holden Omega sedan were also taken from a property in Timor Street on Thursday night.
She said the Toyota Hilux single cab tray ute was unlocked and the offenders had then used a roller door remote control to open the garage and steal keys for the other vehicle.
She said an elderly man was in the house at the time of the aggravated burglary. She said the ute was sighted at a petrol drive off in Colac at about 8am and there had been no sightings of the other vehicles.
