Currently there is a bus stop situated along the Princes Highway, at the end of the road the holiday and permanent accommodation site is situated on.

If people wish to use the bus stop, they have to walk along the road, with no footpath, to get to it. 

Park manager Catherine Hein said there had previously been a stop at the front entrance to the park.

She said 15,000 people stayed at the park each year, and there was 140 permanent residents.

Jean Graham is one resident who would love to catch the bus into Warrnambool.

She no longer drives and relies on her daughter Karen to collect her from her home and take her into the city.

“If the stop was here I would get a little bit of my independence back,” she said.

Public Transport Victoria (PTV) is the authority responsible for public transport services including route determination.

Warrnambool City councillor Tony Herbert supports the bus stop moving. He raised concerns about safety issues at the current stop and said it was problematic. 

“It’s a debacle of a bus stop,” Cr Herbert said.

“Residents have to walk 1.5 kilometres up a road with no footpath to the highway to catch a bus. 

“There they have to negotiate their way within a metre of the highway and cars going past at 100 kilometres an hour. I think it’s absolutely outrageous. There’s a perfectly good bus stop down at Jubilee Park.”

Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell also supports a change.

“The bus routes have been in place for a couple of years now and it’s probably a good time to review them to make sure they are meeting the needs of the community,” she said.

“Several residents from right across Warrnambool have raised concerns with me about the location of bus stops and the frequency of services over the past year. I’ll be asking the public transport minister Jacinta Allan to order a review of the current system that includes significant public consultation.”
