The Dan O’Sullivan trained Aurelius Hero defeated Danigree by more than two lengths with Little Bess in third place in the time-honoured race.
Terang Racing Club president Wayne Johnstone said Aurelius Hero’s win was great for the locally born O’Sullivan who trains at Ballarat.
“Dan had runners at Flemington and Hanging Rock but decided to come home to see Aurelius Hero win,” Johnstone said. “His dad Brian collected the trophy while Dan strapped the horse. This year was the 38th running of the Blank Sprint. It’s one of our feature races for the year.”
Terang Racing Club officials were happy with crowd numbers for the traditional New Years Day meeting after Woodford had more than 5200 patrons attend its meeting at Warrnambool on New Years Eve.
“We had 1200 people come through the gates,” Johnstone said. “We were only down slightly on last year’s meeting which is a great result considering there are three local race meetings within a few days.”
Horsham trainer Paul Preusker took the training honours winning two of the six races.
