The diesel electric rail motor number 58 will arrive on Saturday, January 13 at 1.43pm where passengers will disembark.
Three shuttle services will be offered for locals who want to take a short trip out to the West Vic siding and back.
Tickets, which will be $15 per person and free for under fours, will be sold on that afternoon for departures at 2pm, 2.30pm and 3pm. A fourth shuttle will run at 3.30pm if there is enough interest.
The train was built in 1930 and ran services around country Victoria to places like Echuca, Deniliquin, Cohuna, and Sea Lake.
Until the early 1990s it ran services to Bacchus Marsh, Kyneton and Seymour.
Tour manager Colin Sharp said the train was responsible for ushering in the new technology that is still used by the diesel electric locomotives that now run on the Warrnambool line.
The Diesel Electric Rail Motor Preservation Association of Victoria is bringing the train to Warrnambool with the aim of keeping it going for future generations.
It is also trying to restore another to run heritage services on the state railway system.
